SOUTH BEND, Ind. – USA Lacrosse Magazine announced their 2023 All-American teams with six Irish women highlighting the list. On attack, Jackie Wolak and Madison Ahern were both recognized with the duo leading the team in points, combining for 165 points in 18 games this season. In the midfield, the team’s leading goalscorer was honored while Kelly Denes and Hannah Dorney were named as defenders. As one of the nation’s top goalkeepers, Lilly Callahan rounded out the Irish honorees, awarded by the organization.
Choma’s 58 goals and 71 points rank among the highest in the nation heading into the NCAA tournament. The senior midfielder averages 3.22 goals per game and her 5.17 shots on goal average is third in the ACC. Choma, who has recorded multiple goals in all but one game this season, is also a Tewaaraton nominee and was most recently named All-ACC by the conference at the conclusion of the regular season.
A Third Team honoree, Wolak is the team’s leading scorer and ranks among the top-10 nationally in points (89), points per game (4.94), and assists (44). An All-ACC honoree, the senior leads one of the nation’s best offensive units as the Irish average 15.47 goals per game.
The Honorable Mention team features Irish on all sides of the ball in Ahern, Denes, Dorney, and Callahan. A 2023 Tewaaraton nominee, Ahern’s 76 points and 56 goals ranks second on the team in both categories.
Denes set a career-high draw control tally, recording 111 wins in the circle thus far in 2023 and is a key component to the nation’s second-best draw control corp, boasting a .628 win percentage.
A graduate senior and five-year member of the Irish, Dorney has been the glue to the team’s high clear rate and ranks third in the ACC in ground balls per game, averaging two pickups every game.
Having started all 18 games for Notre Dame this season, Callahan’s 8.38 goals against average leads the conference and is eighth in the nation in the category. The junior goalkeeper posted a 13-5 record in the cage and held nine opponents to single digit goals in 2023.
The Irish return to action Friday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as they take on Mercer for the first time in program history.
