CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The ACC wrapped up the 2024-25 women’s basketball award season on Monday with the announcement of this year’s All-ACC Academic Team. The requirements for selection are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Additionally, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
Six Irish earned a spot on the list.
Sarah Cernugel // Graduate // Master of Science in Business Analytics
Cernugel elected to return to Notre Dame for a final season and nabbed a spot on the All-ACC Academic team for the first time after playing in a career-high 20 games this year.
Sonia Citron // Senior // Management Consulting
For the fourth time, Citron has earned All-ACC Academic honors. In total, just four ACC student-athletes were named to the team for the fourth time this year. The senior was also named to the All-ACC First Team, All-ACC Defensive Team, and was drafted to the WNBA No. 3 overall by the Washington Mystics earlier this month.
Hannah Hidalgo // Sophomore // Film, Television and Theater
Hidalgo adds this academic honor to her resume after amassing numerous conference and national awards on the court. A member of the All-American First Team for the second time in as many years, Hidalgo was also the ACC Player of the Year, ACC Defensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award, among others.
Liza Karlen // Graduate // Master of Science in Management
After earning a degree in engineering from Marquette last season, Karlen leaves Notre Dame with a management degree. She rolled her ankle in the exhibition game in November, but Karlen returned in December and played in 24 contests, often contributing in a vital role off the bench. She was a two-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team at Marquette.
Liatu King // Graduate // Non-Degree Seeking
King earned an undergraduate degree in supply chain management from Pittsburgh last spring and is currently in training camp with the Los Angeles Sparks after the team took her No. 28 overall in the WNBA Draft. The 2024 ACC Most Improved Player, King was an All-ACC First Team selection in 2023-24 and earned a spot on the Second Team while playing for the Irish this season.
Maddy Westbeld // Graduate // Non-Degree Seeking
Westbeld, who was drafted No. 16 overall to the WNBA’s Chicago Sky in mid-April, earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team in the final season of her five-year Irish career. While she missed the start of the season recovering from a foot surgery in August, Westbeld still started in 17 games for Notre Dame this year. Westbeld earned her undergraduate degree from Notre Dame in finance.
