Wellington, Fla. – The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team spent Spring Break in Florida, participating in CSTV’s Spring Fling for the second year in a row. Again the results were the same as the Irish played strong defense and got outstanding goalkeeping from sophomore Erin Goodman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) as they handed Yale a 9-7 loss at Village Parks Field in front of a capacity crowd.
The Irish were led offensively by Caitlin McKinney (Jr., Lafayette Hill, Pa.) who scored three goals with one assists. Jillian Byers (So., Northport, N.Y.) and Meghan Murphy (Sr., Centennial, Colo.) added two goals to pace the Irish attack. Jane Stoeckert (So., Mendham, N.J.) and Lena Zentgraf (Sr., Charlottesville, Va.) had single goals on the night.
The victory gives Notre Dame a three-game winning streak and improves the Irish to 5-1 overall. Yale falls to 4-2 in the loss.
Goodman was forced to make just three stops in the first half as the Irish led 3-2 at the intermission. In the second half, the sophomore came up big, time-and-time again, making 11 saves to finish with 14 in the game.
From sunny Florida, Notre Dame now travels to Syracuse, N.Y., to face Syracuse in the BIG EAST opener for the Irish on Sunday, March 18. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
