Sixth-Ranked Men's Lacrosse Rolls To 13-4 Win At Ohio State

Columbus, Ohio – Senior attackmen Tom Glatzel (Ellicott City, Md.) and Jon Harvey (Winchester, Mass.) combined for eight goals and three assists to lead sixth-ranked Notre Dame to a 13-4 win over 21st-ranked Ohio State at Jesse Owens Stadium. Senior attacker David Ulrich (Baltimore, Md.) added four assists in the Irish win.

The victory improved Notre Dame to 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in Great Western Lacrosse League play. Ohio State falls to 5-3 on the year and 0-2 in GWLL action.

Notre Dame jumped out to a 6-1 lead after one quarter getting goals from Devin Ryan (Jr., Kensington, Md.), two each from Glatzel and Harvey and one from John Flandina (Jr., West Islip, N.J.).

The Irish built the lead to 10-2 at the half as Harvey got the final two goals of his four-goal day, Flandina notched his second of the game and senior midfielder Andy Santoriello (Westfield, N.J.) recorded his first of the season with just 58 seconds left in the stanza. OSU’s John Cummings had both Buckeye goals in the half.

Glatzel scored the only two goals of the third quarter, giving him 23 on the season. That staked the Irish to a 12-2 lead heading into the final period of play.

Ohio State’s Curtis Smith cut the lead to 12-3 before ND’s Mickey Blum (Fr., Garden City, N.Y.) closed out the Irish scoring with 8:16 left in the game. Pat Myers scored OSU’s fourth goal of the contest for the final margin of 13-4.

Notre Dame outshot Ohio State by a 37-36 margin on the afternoon. Irish goalkeeper Kirk Howell (Sr., Nashville, Tenn.) gave up three goals while making nine saves. Sophomore Nick Antol (Baldwin, Md.) played the final 11 minutes of the game making five saves while giving up just one goal. OSU’s Tony Russo made 11 saves in the Buckeye goal.

The Irish, who opened the season with seven of their first eight games on the road, now return home to play five of their final six games in South Bend.

Notre Dame returns to action on Saturday, April 7 when the Irish play host to the University of Denver in a 4:30 p.m. game at Moose Krause Stadium.
