The University of Notre Dame softball team has another game to inclement wather this season. The Irish, 4-0 in Hawai’i’s Spring Fling tournament, will not be able to play for the overall tournament title due to heavy rain on Oahu.
Notre Dame will be declared the tournament champion, giving the team its second tournament title of the season (the Irish also won the GRU Classic in Gainesville, Fla. during the first weekend of the season).
The Irish were slated to play the winner of Virginia – Campbell at 11 a.m. on Saturday, then play the winner of Hawai’i – Nevada for the tournament championship. The heavy rain has cancelled those plans and the Irish will end up spending a rainey day in Hawaii before heading back to Northern Indiana late Saturday night.
Notre Dame’s Spring Break trip will end with a solid 5-1 record. The Irish split a doubleheader at Loyola Marymount, defeated UC Santa Barbara, then took down Campbell, Hawai’i, Virginia and Nevada in the Spring Fling.
Notre Dame will return to its Midwest and BIG EAST Conference based schedule for the rest of the season. The Irish are slated to take part in a four-team tournament next weekend (March 19-20) at Ohio State.
