The University of Notre Dame softball team claimed the 2006 BIG EAST Championship with wins over Providence, Pittsburgh and #18 Louisville over the weekend of May 13-15. The Irish entered the tournament as the third seed overall, but after three consecutive wins they were crowned league champions for the fifth time since 1996.
