• Jim Marlatt And Stephen O’Hara To Captain The Irish

  Strong leadership usually is an essential part of any successful team and this season’s Notre Dame men’s lacrosse squad will look to seniors Jim Marlatt and Stephen O’Hara to set the tone for the upcoming campaign. Marlatt, a midfielder, and O’Hara, a defenseman, have been selected team captains for the 2014 season, which will be Notre Dame’s first as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

• Stephen O’Hara Picked By Ohio Machine In MLL Draft

  University of Notre Dame defenseman Stephen O’Hara was selected by the Ohio Machine with the first pick of the sixth round (41st overall) of the 2014 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Draft, which was held Friday in Philadelphia, Pa.

  O’Hara (West Chester, Pa./St. Joe’s Prep) has started every game over the last two seasons in Notre Dame’s close defense, which has been one of the best in the nation over that time. The Fighting Irish allowed just 8.31 goals per game last season. (read more)

• Fighting Irish #4 In Inside Lacrosse Preseason Pol

  The University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team checks in at No. 4 in the Inside Lacrosse preseason rankings and the Fighting Irish will face the other top-nine squads during the 2014 regular season. Notre Dame is the only program in the nation to have eight top-10 teams on its regular-season docket.

  The Fighting Irish are entering their first season of Atlantic Coast Conference play and all of the league members appear in the top-10 of the Inside Lacrosse poll. (read more)

• Notre Dame To Hold National Coaches Clinic Feb. 1-2

  The University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse coaching staff will conduct its fifth annual National Coaches Clinic Feb. 1-2. The clinic will take place on the University’s campus and will cover all facets of the game.

  The clinic annually attracts coaches from several states across all levels (youth, high school, travel team & MCLA). • Notre Dame Looks To Maintain Successful Stretch In Another New League

  In the last six years the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team has gone from the West (Great Western Lacrosse League) to the East (BIG EAST) to the Atlantic Coast (ACC), but one thing that hasn’t changed during that time is the continual success of the program.

  Notre Dame is one of just two schools (Maryland) that have qualified for each of the last eight NCAA Championships and the Irish have made it to at least the quarterfinals of the last four tournaments, including two Championship Weekend appearances (read more)

• #5 Notre Dame Cruises To 19-7 Season-Opening Win At Jacksonville

  Clearly the cold South Bend winter has not affected the University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team as the fifth-ranked Fighting Irish were red-hot in Sunday’s 19-7 season-opening victory over Jacksonville in the Moe’s Southwest Grill Lacrosse Classic at EverBank Field.

  Notre Dame (1-0) used 13 different goal scorers en route to the program’s 12th straight victory in a season opener. Leading the way was sophomore attackman Matt Kavanagh, who posted three goals and four assists. Fellow attackman Conor Doyle, a junior, joined Kavanagh with a hat trick. (read more)

• #4 Notre Dame Clipped By #12 Penn State, 8-7

  No. 4 Notre Dame scored four of the game’s last five goals but it wasn’t enough as No. 12 Penn State spoiled the Fighting Irish home opener with an 8-7 decision in men’s lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium. Penn State (2-1) increased its two-goal (5-3) halftime edge to four with early third-quarter scores from Shane Sturgis and TJ Sanders. Sturgis tallied five goals and one assist on the day, while Sanders had two goals and an assist for the Nittany Lions, who never trailed in the contest. (read more)

• #11 Irish Rally To Top #2 Tar Heels, 11-10, In ACC Opener

  Joining the nation’s strongest men’s lacrosse league was going to lead to some memorable games and No. 11 Notre Dame made its first contest in the Atlantic Coast Conference unforgettable with a thrilling 11-10 come-from-behind victory at No. 2 North Carolina on Saturday afternoon at Fetzer Field.

  Notre Dame (2-1, 1-0) trailed 8-3 early in the third quarter, yet responded with five unanswered goals to tie the game up less than 30 seconds into the final period. The rally began on a goal from Matt Kavanagh, who had three goals and two assists in the contest. Midfielder Tyler Brenneman sliced the deficit to three (8-5) with his first goal of the season. • #6 Notre Dame Falls To #12 Denver, 10-7, In Pacific Coast Shootout

  On a perfect California day it was an imperfect result for the University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team as the sixth-ranked Fighting Irish fell to No. 12 Denver, 10-7, in the inaugural Pacific Coast Shootout at LeBard Stadium on the campus of Orange Coast College.

  Denver (4-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the 6:14 mark of the opening quarter with scores from Erik Adamson, who had six goals in the game, and Jack Bobzien. Attackman Westy Hopkins put the Irish on the board with 5:21 remaining in the opening quarter, but consecutive tallies from Adamson and a man-up deposit from Zach Miller gave the Pioneers a 5-1 advantage just over two minutes into the second period.   A seven-goal second quarter and a nine-goal fourth quarter put the No. 11 Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team well on its way to an 18-9 victory over No. 7 Virginia on Sunday evening inside the Loftus Sports Center. • Kavanagh Ties School Record With Seven Goals As #7 Irish Best Buckeyes, 13-7

  A program record-tying seven goals from sophomore attackman Matt Kavanagh propelled the seventh-ranked Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team to a 13-7 victory over Ohio State on Tuesday afternoon at a blustery Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

  The contest was delayed for over a half hour due to snow and Ohio State’s Carter Brown scored the only goal of the opening quarter. It marked the first time all season the Fighting Irish were held scoreless for an entire quarter. (read more)

• Irish Fourth-Quarter Rally Falls Short In 11-10 Setback At Syracuse

  No. 7 Notre Dame erased a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter but Syracuse’s Kevin Rice scored with just over two minutes left to give the 10th-ranked Orange an 11-10 victory in Atlantic Coast Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon inside the Carrier Dome.

  Junior attackman Conor Doyle scored a career-high four goals for the Fighting Irish, while freshman goalie Shane Doss made a career-best 11 saves. Rice led the Orange with four goals and two assists. (read more)

• Stephen O’Hara Named A Finalist For Senior CLASS Award

  Notre Dame team captain and standout defenseman Stephen O’Hara has been named one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award in the men’s lacrosse division.

  To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.   Five goals from Deemer Class and four more from Jordan Wolf propelled No. 3 Duke to a 15-7 victory over No. 7 Notre Dame in Atlantic Coast Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium.

  Fifth-ranked Maryland scored the final four goals of the contest to take a 12-8 decision over No. 8 Notre Dame in Atlantic Coast Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium.

• Kavanagh Nets Game Winner As #9 Irish Top #5 Terps, 6-5, In ACC Semifinals

  Sophomore attackman Matt Kavanagh scored the game winner with seven seconds left as No. 9 Notre Dame topped No. 5 Maryland, 6-5, on Friday evening in the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Championship at a chilly and rainy PPL Park. Notre Dame will face Syracuse at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday for the ACC title.

  The game-clinching sequence began when Notre Dame freshman defenseman Garrett Epple forced a Maryland turnover and midfielder Jack Near scooped up the ground ball, raced down the field and found Kavanagh, who gave the Fighting Irish (7-5) their first lead of the game. (read more)

  In a game that featured eight ties and six lead changes, the fifth-ranked Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team got the decisive tally from Conor Doyle with 20 seconds left to top No. 19 Army 18-17 on Saturday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium. • John Scioscia Named ACC Offensive Player Of The Week

  After tallying a career-high eight points on six goals and two assists in Saturday’s 18-17 win over Army, Notre Dame senior attackman John Scioscia (Summit, N.J./Summit) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week.

  The six goals tied a career-best mark for Scioscia and the eight points were one shy of matching the program record. Arguably his biggest play of the game occurred in the final minute when he forced an Army turnover, picked up the ground ball and assisted on Conor Doyle’s game winner. (read more)

  No. 6 seed Notre Dame opened the game on a 7-0 run and never looked back en route to a 13-5 win over unseeded Harvard in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship on Saturday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium.

  The Fighting Irish offense was spearheaded by a four-goal performance from senior attackman John Scioscia, while sophomore attackman Matt Kavanagh added two goals and three assists.   Four NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse teams earned a perfect score in the latest Academic Progress Rate statistics and the University of Notre Dame is the only one that also qualified for this season’s NCAA Championship.

• Irish Top Albany, 14-13, In Overtime Thriller In NCAA Quarterfinals

  A Matt Kavanagh goal in overtime gave No. 6 seed Notre Dame a thrilling 14-13 victory over Albany on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship in front of a sellout and stadium-record crowd of 13,519 at James M. Shuart Stadium.

  The Fighting Irish (11-5) trailed 12-7 with just over eight minutes remaining in the contest before ending regulation on a 6-1 run. The surge began on a Nick Ossello goal, which snapped a 6-0 Albany run, and Westy Hopkins scored less than a minute later to make it a three-goal affair. Tallies from Conor Doyle and Sergio Perkovic 36 seconds apart cut the Albany lead to one (12-11) with 6:19 left to play. (read more)
