Brad Vanderglas
Bio

In his first season in South Bend, Vanderglas oversaw the Irish return to Omaha for the third time in program history and the first time in 20 years. The Irish knocked off No. 1 overall seed Tennessee in the Super Regionals, the second time in program history they defeated the No. 1 overall seed in the Super Regional round. They became the first program in NCAA history to have four wins all-time over the No. 1 overall seed in the Super Regional round. The Irish eclipsed the 40-win plateau for the first time since the 2006 season.

Vanderglas led the outfield group as a number of them had career best seasons in 2022. Jack Zyska had the best season of his career in his senior campaign as he led the Irish with 13 home runs as the team set the single-season record with 79 home runs on the year. Zyska had career-best marks in games played, hits, runs, home runs and RBI as he split time between left field and designated hitter. Ryan Cole continued to excel in his graduate season as he earned third team All-ACC honors while finishing fourth in the conference with 22 steals. Fellow outfielder Brooks Coetzee III was right behind Zyska with 12 home runs on the year and finished with a perfect fielding percentage with 72 putouts and four assists. The Irish as a team led the ACC in fielding percentage (.980) and ranked 14th nationally.

Vanderglas was hired as the program’s new assistant coach heading into the 2022 season.

Vanderglas came to the Irish after spending the previous five seasons at Indiana State. While with the Sycamores, he worked primarily with outfielders and catchers while organizing camps, creating practice schedules and scouting opponents. He also coordinated travel that included hotels, buses and meals.

Vanderglas played a key role in the Sycamores’ regional appearances last year and in 2019. This past season, Indiana State earned the No. 3 seed in the Nashville Regional after making it to the Missouri Valley Championship Game. The Sycamores won one game in Nashville before getting eliminated by the No. 2 seed Georgia Tech.

In the 2019 campaign, the Sycamores finished the season 43-18, including a 15-2 mark at home and claimed the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship. ISU won two games in the Nashville Regional, hosted by the No. 2 overall seed and eventual National Champion Vanderbilt.

Prior to his time in Terre Haute, Vanderglas spent three years at Lincoln Trail College in Illinois as Associate Head Coach and the team’s Recruiting Coordinator.

At Lincoln Trail, Vanderglas picked up commitments from several high-profile student-athletes including Jordan Brewer who went on to earn 2019 Big 10 Player of the Year honors and was drafted in the third round of the MLB Draft. Raul Hernandez who was the GRAC Player of the Year in 2017 as well as Eli Boggess who finished second in Division I in batting average in 2017 at Morehead State.

Prior to coaching, Vanderglas played four seasons at Northern Kentucky. He made 148 starts for the Norse over his career and graduated in 2013.
