AS A FIFTH-YEAR SENIOR: Enjoyed most productive season of college career, posting a 27-11 regular season record before advancing to his first NCAA Championship appearance as a member of the Irish … named a honorable mention all-MFC member … earned second monogram … opened the year with a 3-3 mark at the NYU Invitational, including going 2-1 against Columbia in the second match of the event … rebounded with a 5-3 showing at the St. John[apos]s Challenge … ended that event with a 2-0 record against Columbia including claiming the clinching win for epee with his 5-1 decision over Sean Leahy … recorded a mark of 9-1 at the home Notre Dame Duals, including clean sheets against Detroit (1-0), Wayne State (1-0), Northwestern (1-0), Florida (1-0), Lawrence (1-0), Swarthmore (1-0) and Cleveland State (2-0) … went 5-2 at both the Northwestern Duals and the Duke Duals … finished 11th place individually at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships, while helping epee team claim the gold in the weapon finals … finished with a record of 6-3 with a +12 indicator at the NCAA Midwest Regionals to place third in the weapon and earn a spot at the NCAA Championships … concluded his first NCAA appearance with the Irish with a final mark of 11-12 with a -4 indicator, including a victory over Ohio State[apos]s Marco Canevari who finished tied for third individually in the weapon finals.
AS A SENIOR: Did not see action during his senior campaign.
AS A JUNIOR: Went 27-14 in the regular season before finishing sixth at the Midwest Regional … began his Irish career by going 2-4 at the St. John[apos]s Duals … went 1-2 at the NYU Invitational … earned an important win against third-ranked Ohio State in the NYU Invitational, beating Jason Pryor to tie the bout at 7-7 … finished 6-4 at the Northwestern Duals, including a 2-0 record versus North Carolina … posted a 3-3 mark at the Duke Duals … had an impressive performance at the Notre Dame Duals, finishing 15-1 on the weekend … went 3-0 against both San Diego and Oberlin … finished 14th at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships … in the direct elimination portion of the tournament, took out Lawrence[apos]s Jordan Severson by a 15-4 margin and proceeded to knock out teammate Andrew Seroff, 15-9, before falling to top-seeded Jason Pryor of Ohio State in the round of 16 by a score of 15-10 … finished in sixth place at the NCAA Midwest Regionals after losing to Notre Dame teammate Greg Schoolcraft, 15-14, in the fifth place bout … his lone win in the direct-elimination portion of the regional came against Cleveland State[apos]s John Marshall, 15-6.
BEFORE NOTRE DAME: Transfer from Columbia … finished sixth in epee at the 2008 NCAA Regionals to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
PREP & PERSONAL: Trained at the Gold Blade Fencing Club while in high school … member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Finalist while at Grapevine … son of Lawrence and Joan Kelly … has two sisters and a brother … uncle, Allen Jones, played football at Florida … born May 2, 1988, in Keflavik, Iceland … graduated from the College of Engineering with a degree in mechanical engineering.
