AS A SENIOR: Posted a 14-5 overall singles record and a 10-2 doubles record. In singles, he went 7-1 in dual matches and 7-4 in open play. His only dual-match loss came against No. 77-ranked Anthony Rossi of Kentucky. He earned victories over Alberto Bautista of Texas A&M, Drew Lied of Michigan State, and Chris Jackman of Northwestern.
AS A JUNIOR: Earned wins in both singles and doubles against No. 2 Virginia, defeating #86 ranked Steven Rooda in singles and partnering with Blas Moros to defeat Julen Uriguen and Santiago Villegas in doubles Delivered match-clinching victories against No. 25 Washington and No. 36 Michigan and, defeating Martin Kildahl and Chris Cha, respectively. Compiled a 5-2 mark at No. 5 singles, while competing primarily at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. Added a three-set victory over USF’s Yannick Yoshizawa and represented Notre Dame in the BIG EAST Tournament.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Posted a 17-7 overall singles record with a 9-5 dual-season singles mark and 8-2 in Open play. He spent most of his time playing at No.5 where he had an 8-3 record. He secured an upset win for the Irish, defeating Colin Hoover of #13 Texas A&M, (6-4, 3-6, 6-0) before the Irish clinched the match 4-3. Ended his sophomore year with a 5 match dual win streak.
He clinched the Irish victory against #9 Illinois as the last match on and the team score at 3-3, David knocked off Meedo El Tabakh 7-6; 6-4 to clinch the victory over the top 10 Fighting Illini team. He ended the BIG EAST Tournament on a 5-match win streak and a straight-sets victory over Andrew Carter of #23 Louisville, 6-3, 7-6.
AS A FRESHMAN: Went 9-4 in Open play and finished the season with a 17-15 overall record in singles play. He won the clinching match with the score tied 3-3, against #9 Duke, where he defeated Jared Pinsky 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. He also had clinching wins over Northwestern and Toledo. He posted a 7-4 mark against Midwest region opponents in the dual season. Played the majority of the dual season at the No. 5 position, but also went 1-0 at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. His clinching wins against Scott Rasmussen of #64 Michigan State (6-3, 6-2), and Juan Gomez of #66 Northwestern (7- 5, 6-4) completed a three-match win streak. He had consecutive three set tie-break wins over Marc Spicijaric of #13 Illinois [5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (8)] and Griff Nienberg of Purdue [7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (11)]. Went 4-1 in doubles playing with Daniel Stahl and also paired with Sean Corrigan to defeat Saketh Myneni and Sammy Struyf of Alabama (8-5).
HIGH SCHOOL & PERSONAL DATA:
David Anderson was ranked #1 in New England and #23 in the country for 18 & under. He went undefeated during the two years he played on his high school tennis team. He was the South Sectional Individual Champion as a Freshman and won the entire Massachusetts Individual tournament as a sophomore.
He was a USTA Level 2 National Open Champion in November 2005, Level 3 Champion in 2004, along with Finalist in a Level 2 National Open in Tampa, FL. David competed in Kalamazoo all 4 eligible years in the 16’s and 18’s, where his best result came when he made the 4th round, losing to future Grand slam Doubles Champion Michael Venus.
He had a 4.0 GPA and received the New England Sportsmanship Award and the Easter Bowl Sportsmanship Award while also being named as a Boston Globe All-Scholastic and Massachusetts All-star during his freshman and Sophomore years of high school. He moved to Hilton Head Island to train at Van Der Meer Tennis Academy during his junior year of high school.
He is the son of Del and Susan Anderson and has two older sisters, Jen, and Diana. His Dad got him and his sisters into tennis and his sisters both played for Gordon College’s tennis team, where they both played #1 and were inducted into Gordon College’s Tennis Hall of Fame. David is enrolled in the Mendoza College of Business as a Finance major.
