Alex Kasarov joined the Fighting Irish men’s tennis staff as an assistant coach in July of 2025. Kasarov brings a wealth of both professional and collegiate experience to the Fighting Irish, including head coaching stints at Monmouth and Brown.

“I’m incredibly honored to join the men’s tennis program at Notre Dame,” Kasarov stated. “This University’s tradition of excellence – both academically and athletically- makes this a truly special opportunity. I’m grateful for the trust and support of the administration and athletic department, and I can’t wait to get to work with Coach Sachire and our student-athletes as we build something exceptional together.”

Kasarov arrives in South Bend after a five-year stint as the head coach of the men’s tennis program at Brown. Kasarov is coming off a huge turnaround season in which the Bears posted a +13 win differential overall.

Their 18-12 mark tied the record for the most wins since 2009. In addition, Brown’s 16 home victories tied the most in a single season and matched the 2006 Bears.

From a player development standpoint, Kasarov mentored Alex Finkelstein to Second Team All-Ivy honors last season in singles, where he also achieved a No. 115 national ranking. He became the first Bear to be nationally ranked in singles since Dan Hanegby in 2007. Furthermore, Finkelstein became the second singles All-Ivy performer in the last three seasons under Kasarov, joining Niraj Komatineni in 2023.

“I am thrilled to be able to welcome Alex to the Notre Dame family and to our men’s tennis coaching staff,” Coach Sachire explained. “Alex brings with him a tremendous amount of success and experience at the highest levels of our sport, both as a coach and as a player. His track record in both recruiting and player development is elite, and I can’t wait to see the impact he makes on our program.  Additionally, his personality and character make him a tremendous fit for Notre Dame.

“This is a great day for ND Men’s Tennis!”

Prior, Kasarov was an associate head coach at his alma mater of Wisconsin from 2018-2021, where he spearheaded the Badgers’ scouting and recruiting efforts. Through his keen eye and talent development, Kasarov guided two doubles teams to national rankings.

Before Wisconsin, Kasarov was the head coach at Monmouth from 2016-18, where he led the Hawks to NCAA tournament appearances and MAAC conference championships in both seasons. He earned MAAC Coach of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons and piloted Monmouth to a record of 28-25, including a perfect 18-0 mark in conference play.

Under his watch, Monmouth featured the MAAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in 2018, as a total of 12 of his singles players and six doubles teams earned All-MAAC honors. That success included guiding Nicola Pipoli to an ITA national ranking, the first in school history.

Adding to his resume and vast experience in the field, Kasarov also served a two-year stint at Davidson, where he enjoyed back-to-back winning seasons. Kasarov coached two-time A-10 all-league picks Shamael Chaudhry and Artem Khrapko, who in their first two years combined to collect 47 singles wins and 31 doubles victories.

In addition, the Wildcats enjoyed a 10-match winning streak in Kasarov’s first year with the program, the team’s longest string of victories since 1997. The Wildcats also excelled in the classroom, as Davidson was named an ITA All-Academic Team and five student-athletes were named ITA Scholar Athletes following the 2016 season.

Before joining the collegiate coaching ranks, Kasarov was a private tennis coach where he worked with top nationally-ranked junior players. He was a tennis professional from 2006-11 at Midtown Athletic Club, College Park Athletic Club and Club Net, CARE Tennis Academy, working with top-ranked players of all ages in Illinois, Midwest Section and nationally. Kasarov also worked individually with the club’s top-ranked players while providing on-court coaching during junior tournaments.

Going back to his collegiate playing days, Kasarov was a key member of the Wisconsin Badgers’ men’s tennis team, competing at the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles for three straight years. He was a team captain in 2004 and earned All-Big Ten honors. Nationally, Kasarov was ranked as high as eighth in doubles during his career.

A native of Bourgas, Bulgaria, Kasarov earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Wisconsin in 2005.
