AS A JUNIOR: Only swam in fall semester before leaving the team … swam in two meets, at home against Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh (Nov. 7-8) and at Michigan State (Nov. 14) … in Rolfs Aquatic, clocked times in the 100 free (45.74), 100 back (50.62), 200 back (1:55.69) and 200 IM (1:55.36) … also swam with 200 free relay A-team (20.44 split, 1:21.94) and anchored the 400 medley relay A-team (44.90 split, 3:19.19) to second place … helped 400 free relay A-team to first place (44.94 split, 3:01.34) … in East Lansing, Michigan, swam the 100 back (51.78) and 100 free (46.31) and helped the 400 free relay A-team to first place (25.87 split, 3:04.63).

AS A SOPHOMORE: A key member of the 200 medley relay B-team, swimming lead leg in almost every meet of the season … also swam 100 and 200 back, and dabbled in the 200 and 400 IM … at Dennis Stark Relays, 400 medley relay team came in third (3:23.10) … same team qualified for NCAA Championship but did not finish … also qualified for NCAAs in the 200 medley relay event, finishing 25th in the nation (1:27.35) … came in second in 200 medley relay (1:32.73) in dual meet with Purdue … third in 200 medley relay (1:32.67) at Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado in dual meet with Air Force … also logged a second-place finish in tri-meet with Michigan State and Virginia in 200 medley relay (1:32.83) … at Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship, swam lead leg in 400 medley relay, finishing fifth (3:09.50) and setting a new school record … his split of 47.17 in 100 back also set a new university record in that event … touched in 10th in 100 back (47.44) at ACC Championship meet … was 13th in 200 back (1:45.27) at conference championships … tried his hand at the 100 breast and 100 fly in last home meet of the year against Cleveland State … in both events, finished sixth, touching the wall in 1:01.26 in 100 breast and clocking in at 51.35 in 100 fly … at ACC Championships, finished 200 IM in 1:47.19 … earned a monogram.

AS A FRESHMAN: Turned in the team’s fastest time of the season in the 200 back prelims (1:45.78) at the BIG EAST Championships, while also recording a season-best in the 100 back prelims (48.77) … the 200 back swim was the third-fastest in school history … picked up a pair of top-eight finishes at the Northwestern Invitational, hitting the pad in the 100 back in 51.26 and the 200 medley relay in 1:32.52 … swam at the Shamrock Invitational, placing fifth in three different events … in dual meet action, picked up two fourth-place finishes in the 100 and 200 back … BIG EAST Academic All-Star … earned a monogram.

PREP AND PERSONAL: Four-year letter-winner at North Allegheny High School for coach Kirk Semler … won two team state championships and three district championships with the Tigers … won an individual state championship in the 200 IM … nine-time district individual/relay champion … also participated in water polo at North Allegheny … swam with the Allegheny North Swim Club … U.S. Olympic trial qualifier in the 100m backstroke with a time of 57.40 … son of David and Sonya Buerger … has two brothers, Jonathan and Zachary … has one sister, Victoria … father David (Allegheny) and uncle Daniel Buerger (Duke) were both collegiate swimmers … brother Jonathan swam at Virginia … enrolled in the College of Science, majoring in science-business.
