AS A SOPHOMORE (2015-16): Swam sparingly in second season at Notre Dame … began the year on three relays at the Dennis Stark Relay meet, exhibitioning with the 400 medley relay (47.81 split), 200 medley relay (21.34 split) and 400 free relay (47.77 split) … raced at Purdue Invitational in November, with highest finish coming with the 400 free relay that took 13th (46.50 split) … came in 18th in the 100 free (46.46 finals, 47.84 prelims( and 20th in the 100 fly (50.81 finals, 52.16 prelims) … clocked in at 1:59.67 in the 200 IM and swam the 200 free in 1:46.71 in the prelims, finishing in 1:44.93 in the finals … began second semester at Virginia, earning fourth place with the 200 free relay (21.22 split) and fifth with the 400 free relay (47.59 split), exhibitioning in the 100 free (47.82) and 50 free (21.53) … capped the year at the Michigan First Chance meet, where he earned second place in the 100 fly (48.77), third in the 100 free (45.11), fifth in the 50 free (20.86) and time-trialed in the 200 free (1:39.47).

AS A FRESHMAN (2014-15): Began his Irish career at the Dennis Stark Relays, anchoring the 400 medley relay (47.42 split, 3:35.03) and the 200 free relay (21.64 split, 1:37.09) to third place finishes … against Purdue, finished sixth in the 200 free (1:43.78) and in the 100 free (47.62) … also swam third on the B-team of the 400 free relay, finishing third (47.02 split, 3:07.16) … competing against Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh, anchored the C-team in the 200 free relay to fifth (21.13 split, 1:24.47) … clocked in at 1:01.41 in the 100 breast and 21.82 in the 50 free … swam third on the B-team of the 800 free relay (1:44.48 split) and led the 400 free relay C-team with his 47.38 split … at Michigan State, touched the wall sixth in the 200 free (1:46.06) and swam a 48.93 time in the 100 free … also clocked a 54.83 time in the 100 fly … at the Hawkeye Invitational, swam the 500 free in 4:42.10 in the morning prelims … earned a spot in the evening finals of the 50 free with his 21.38 prelim time, finishing 23rd (21.57) … touched in 21st in the 200 free (1:40.93), swimming the prelims in 1:40.42 … anchored the B-team in the 800 free relay to seventh place (1:42.48 split, 6:46.51) … swam a 47.25 time in the 100 free prelims … at Michigan against the Wolverines and Northwestern, swam the 200 free in 1:45.11 and the 100 free in 49.16, anchoring the B-team in the 400 free relay to fourth place as well (48.09 split, 3:12.13) … in the Shamrock Invitational, swam third on the C-team of the 200 medley relay, clocking a 21.78 split and helping the team to fourth place (1:31.83) … touched the wall in 1:39.49 in the 200 free before anchoring the 400 free relay B-team to second place (45.24 split, 3:02.12) … finished the season at home against Cleveland State, clocking a time of of 50.43 in the 100 fly and helping the B-team of the 200 medley relay to second (22.37 split, 1:33.78).

PREP & PERSONAL: Swam with Highlander Aquatics club and prep team during high school career … also ran track and cross country … earned 13 varsity letters as a member of the track, cross country and swimming teams … during senior season team clinched second place at state meet … was runner-up individually at state meet as well … graduated from Lake Highland Prep in May 2014 … son of Bruce and Tracy Bessire … has one sister, Suzanne and a brother, Jack … Suzanne was a member of Notre Dame’s women’s swimming team … born in Irving, Texas, and grew up in Orlando, Florida … enrolled in the College of Arts & Letters, pursuing a degree in the Program of Liberal Studies.
