AS A SENIOR:Finished his career as a freestyle specialist… placed 17th in 500 free prelims at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships… would go on to place 23rd in the finals (4:25.93)… swam to 14th in 400 IM finals (3:50.39)… had three top-four placements in 800 free relay… best time was as the third leg at the Hawkeye Invitational, clinching fourth (6:40.36)… had two first place wins against Olivet Nazarene… swam the third leg of 800 free relay (6:53.15)… 300 back 3×100 relay (2:35.79)… touched the wall first in 1650 free at the Shamrock Invitational for a season best time (15:21.60)… at the same Invitational, swam to third in 500 free (4:31.90)… sixth in 400 IM (4:05.39)… tied for eighth in 400 free relay at the Hawkeye Invitational (3:03.63)… had season-best time for 500 free at the Invitational, taking 14th place in the finals (4:31.50)… earned a monogram.

AS A JUNIOR: Distinguished himself as a distance freestyle specialist for the Irish, primarily swimming the 500 free, 1,000 free and 1,650 free races … also swam 200 fly and 400 IM … turned in four season-best performances at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship meet, setting new career records in the 1,000 free (9:15.50), the 1,650 free (15:15.94) and the 400 IM (3:49.28) … came in 15th-place in 500 free at ACC Championships, touching the wall in 4:25.38 … also placed 15th in 500 free (4:30.53) at Hawkeye Invitational … improved to eighth at Shamrock Invite, clocking in at 4:35.69 in 500 free race … in dual meet with former BIG EAST foe Louisville, earned highest finish of the season in 500 free (4:39.96), touching the wall in seventh place … at Louisville meet, came in fourth in 1,000 free (9:29.91) … was second in dual meet with Wisconsin in 1,000 free (9:32.43) … clocked a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 1,650 free at the Hawkeye Invitational (15:36.10) and the Shamrock Invite (15:47.80) … was first in 1,650 (15:48.15) at dual meet with Purdue … came in fifth in 200 fly (1:56.80) in last home meet of the season against Cleveland State … touched the wall in 3:49.28, good for 17th place in 400 IM at the ACC Championship meet … earned a monogram.

AS A SOPHOMORE: Turned in two season-best performances at the BIG EAST Championships with a third-place finish in the 1,650 free (15:21.63) and a fourth-place finish in the 400 IM (3:51.33) … was the fifth swimmer to touch the wall in the 500 free (4:25.09) at the BIG EAST Championships … took home a top-five finish at the Northwestern Invitational as a member of the 800 free relay team (6:53.91) along with a sixth-place finish in the 500 free (4:37.03) … recorded best finish of the year as runner-up in the 1,650 free (15:49.81) at the Shamrock Invitational … was part of the third place 800 free relay team at the same meet … was a strong competitor in dual meet action, finishing third in the 1,000 free (9:33.20), fourth in the 500 free (4:39.40) and fourth in the 200 free relay (1:24.31) against Louisville … took bronze in the 200 free (1:43.33) and fourth in the 200 IM (1:55.94) against Pittsburgh … was one of four recipients of the Notre Dame Most Improved Award at the season-ending team banquet … earned a monogram.

AS A FRESHMAN: Swam the full range of freestyle events for the Irish in his inaugural campaign, capping off the season with two top-eight finishes at the BIG EAST Championships … nabbed an NCAA B-cut en route to a fourth-place finish in the 1,650 free (15:27.69) at the BIG EAST Championships … took seventh at the same meet in the 500 free (4:27.13) … also competed in the 200 free, recording a time of 1:38.74 in prelims which stood as a personal fastest readout of the season … clocked fastest 100 free time of the season at the Hawkeye Invitational (46.81) while leading off a relay … took second in the 1,650 free in dual meet action against Michigan State, posting a 15:50.12 … saw additional dual meet competition against Louisville, Pittsburgh, Northwestern, Purdue, and the quad meet against Michigan, Oakland, and TCU … earned a monogram.

PREP AND PERSONAL: Prepped at Mt. Lebanon (Pa.) while earning four varsity letters with the swim team … nine-time All-American … short course nationals qualifier … holds school records in the 200 IM, 500 free and 200/400 free relays … WPIAL champion in the 200 IM as a junior … 500 free state champion as a senior … three-time team MVP and team captain … four times named to the all-conference, all-city and all-state squads … member of National Honor Society and student-athlete council … son of Kathy and Frank Nappi … full name is John Francis Nappi … sister, Mary, swam at Wooster … father swam at Westminster College … hails from same area as Notre Dame women’s basketball player Madison Cable … graduated from the Mendoza College of Business, majoring in accounting.
