AS A FRESHMAN:
- Won his first collegiate race in the 800m with a time of 1:55.13 at the Blue & Gold Invitational
PREP AND PERSONAL:
- Graduated from Warwick in June 2019
- Competed in soccer, basketball, track and cross country in high school
- Was a state medalist as a senior in both cross country and the indoor mile
- Broke Warwick’s 52-year-old mile record
- Helped lead cross country and track teams to Lancaster-Lebanon League Championships
- Is an Eagle Scout
- Member of the Interact Club and the National Honor Society
- Recipient of the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship
- Son of Tom and Melonni Shields, both of whom attended Notre Dame
- Dad Tom was a student-athlete on the Irish baseball team
- Has two older sisters, Kelsey and Sam, and an older brother, Derrick
- Sister Sam competes on the cross country/track and field team at Pittsburgh
- Intends to study computer science
