Three-time monogram winner for the Irish β¦ veteran leader of the Notre Dame defense β¦ has played a key role on the Irish defense in her first three seasons at Notre Dame β¦ is team[apos]s top one-on-one defender β¦ combines with fellow senior Kristin Hopson and junior Becky Ranck to give the Irish one of the top back lines in the nation β¦ was selected to the preseason all-BIG EAST team β¦ tough, tenacious defender with good speed and outstanding athletic ability β¦ always in position to win the β50-50β² balls β¦ strong defender around the arc β¦ smart and intelligent on defense β¦ moves the ball well in transition β¦ was a second team all-BIG EAST selection following the 2006 season β¦ has twice been selected to the IWLCA all-West/Midwest regional team (2005, 2006) β¦ has played in 49 games in three seasons, making 32 starts β¦ has recorded two assists in career with 74 ground balls, 23 draw controls and 38 caused turnovers.
AS A JUNIOR: Started all 19 games as a junior and played a key role on Irish back line as team advanced to NCAA semifinals β¦ had two assists from her defensive position while grabbing 39 ground balls, 10 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers β¦ ranked third on the team in ground balls and third in caused turnovers β¦ selected second team all-BIG EAST and second team IWLCA all-Region following her junior year β¦ had assists versus Cornell and Loyola β¦ picked up ground balls in 17 of team[apos]s 19 games β¦ had 11 games with two or more ground balls β¦ had a career-high six ground balls in 17-15 home win against Cornell β¦ had four ground balls versus Vanderbilt and Cornell in NCAA tournament β¦ turned in a career best five draw controls at Northwestern β¦ had six games with two or more caused turnovers β¦ recorded a season-high three caused turnovers at Ohio State.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Played in 14 games, making 12 starts β¦ had 24 ground balls, eight draw controls and 15 caused turnovers β¦ was selected to the IWLCA second-team all-Mid-Atlantic region team following the season β¦ had seven games with two or more ground balls and three games with two or more caused turnovers β¦ picked up a career-high four ground balls against No. 2 Duke β¦ caused a career-best four turnovers in win over Rutgers.
AS A FRESHMAN: Played in 16 games, making lone start versus Connecticut β¦ had career-high three ground balls versus the Huskies β¦ had two draw controls in season opener at California.
PREP AND PERSONAL: Played soccer and lacrosse at St. Anthony[apos]s High School β¦ lettered two seasons in soccer and four in lacrosse β¦ helped soccer to back-to-back undefeated seasons and a pair of New York state championships β¦ helped women[apos]s lacrosse team to three conference titles β¦ served as team captain as a junior and senior β¦ team MVP in 2003 β¦ four-time all-CHSAA all-conference selection β¦ honorable mention All-America in 2002 and All-America choice in 2003 β¦ played on 2003 U.S. Under-19 National Team β¦ selected St. Anthony[apos]s Scholar-Athlete award winner in 2003 β¦ most valuable player of 2003 CHSAA Conference championship game β¦ played on New York State 2 all-star team in 2001 and New York State 1 all-star team in 2002 β¦ full name is Meaghan Patricia Fitzpatrick β¦ daughter of Thomas and Joann Fitzpatrick β¦ has one brother β¦ born Feb. 9, 1985, in Bethpage, N.Y. β¦ has a major in design at Notre Dame.
