Lexi Dakin 2016-17 Women's Soccer Staff

Lexi Dakin (pronounced DAY-kin) is in her second season as Notre Dame’s coordinator of women’s soccer operations, having been named to the post in August 2013. In her current role, Dakin is responsible for video coordination and film exchange, as well as assisting with team travel, equipment, budgeting and on-campus recruiting, team marketing and promotions (including social media) and the very popular Notre Dame women’s soccer summer camps.

Dakin joined the Fighting Irish staff following a three-month communications internship at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). While working at the organization’s main offices in Kansas City, Kan., Dakin worked closely to expand the NSCAA’s brand image through both social media and the new NSCAA TV multimedia platform. She also served as the editor and main contributor for the NSCAA monthly newsletter, and she wrote regular articles for the organization’s official web site, NSCAA.com.

Prior to her arrival at the NSCAA, Dakin worked in several capacities concurrent with her studies at Michigan State University, where she graduated in May 2013 with her bachelor’s degree in professional writing (emphasis on editing, publishing and marketing).

One of the highlights of her undergraduate career came during her final semester, when she helped produce a documentary entitled “For The 25,” which told the story of the men of the U.S. 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, which was deployed to Afghanistan. The Regiment wound up suffering the most casualties in 2010 during Operation Enduring Freedom and many of the surviving members later encountered difficulties when returning to civilian life after combat. The documentary debuted on YouTube in May 2013 and, as of August 2014, it has been seen nearly 400,000 times by viewers in more than 60 countries.

Dakin also completed a two-semester internship in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric & American Cultures (WRAC) at Michigan State. There, she served as the communications supervisor for the department, managing and writing content for both its web site and interdepartmental newsletter. In addition, she was the WRAC social media liaison for the balance of her tenure.

Dakin similarly took part in a year-long apprenticeship at Offbeat (MSU’s campus literary magazine), where she filled the role of book designer and staff editor. In that position, she read submissions to the magazine for annual publication and helped designed its layout for the 2011-12 academic year.

Dakin began building her career in communications in May 2011 with a summer internship as a marketing assistant at Zondervan, a publishing house based in Grand Rapids, Mich., and a division of HarperCollins Publishers. It was at Zondervan that she wrote press releases and compiled weekly publicity hits for the group’s sales representatives, while also coordinating author correspondence.

Originally hailing from Hastings, Mich., Dakin now makes her home in the South Bend area.
