SOUTH BEND, Ind. - University of Notre Dame head softball coach Kris Ganeff announced the addition of Wendy Swinehart to the staff as an assistant coach.
“I am so excited to add Wendy to our coaching staff,” Ganeff said. “She has been someone I leaned on heavily for softball advice over my entire career. Wendy is a coach who will push her players to be their very best, but at the same time she will cultivate lasting relationships with each player. Wendy will come in as our outfield coach, assist on the Offensive side, and contribute in all areas of the game. We welcome Wendy and her entire family as they become Irish!”
Swinehart has extensive head coaching experience at the high school level in the region, with stops at Mattawan, Portage Northern and Kalamazoo Central.
The new Irish assistant coach also has been a coach of travel teams, including Michigan Athletics, Michigan BatBusters and Finesse.
All three of Swinehart’s children played either Division I softball or baseball at Western Michigan. Both daughters have become college softball coaches. Her daughter, Kenzie, was a volunteer coach at Notre Dame for two seasons and is currently the assistant coach at Fordham while her daughter, Jordyn, is the head coach at Saint Mary’s College.
Swinehart played her final two seasons of collegiate softball at Western Michigan in 1994 and 1995. The standout player still ranks third in WMU program history for hits in a season with 67 in 1994.
