Start Times Altered For This Weekend's Home Matches

Feb. 24, 2004

The two home matches this weekend for the 43rd-ranked University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team (7-2) have had their start times slightly altered, head coach Bob Bayliss announced. On Saturday, the Irish will play host to #12 Ohio State at approximately 2 p.m. (EST), while Notre Dame and BIG EAST rival #33 Miami will play on Sunday beginning around 1 p.m. Both matches will begin when courts are available following contests scheduled beforehand.

On Saturday morning, Miami will play #63 Western Michigan in the Eck Tennis Pavilion in a neutral-site match preceding the Irish-Buckeyes tilt. Sunday morning features the 20th-ranked Notre Dame women’s tennis team playing host to #26 Indiana in a 10 a.m. (EST) contest, which will directly precede the Irish men facing the Hurricanes in a rematch of each of the last eight BIG EAST title matches.

Notre Dame has won four in a row, including two straight over higher-ranked teams, as it heads to #1 Illinois on Thursday for a 4 p.m. (EST) match with the defending national champions. The Illini have won 42 consecutive matches, just three shy of the NCAA record, and have not been beaten at home in the last 25 matches, since the Irish handed them a 4-3 loss in 2002.

The 2004 Irish schedule is still subject to further changes, but any adjustments will be announced on Notre Dame’s official athletic website, www.und.com, which also features the most up-to-date schedules of all Irish teams.
