Talia Campbell ’16 Advances To Mid-Amateur Championship

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Former Notre Dame women’s golfer Talia Campbell ’16 has put together quite the run at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at the Forest Highlands Golf Club, Flagstaff, Arizona, advancing to Thursday’s championship match versus Ina Kim-Schaad. It marks the 33rd edition of the prestigious USGA championship.

Campbell, who won a pair of matches on Wednesday 3&2 and 1 up to advance to the final, currently resides in New York City where she is a private equity investment professional focusing on mergers and acquisitions and leveraged buyouts.

Campbell’s journey to the championship began with two rounds of stroke play, in which she shot a pair of 74’s (74-74=147) to advance as the No. 20 seed. 

In the round of 64, Campbell defeated Marissa Mar in 19 holes and then posted a 4 and 3 win in the Round of 32 over Kay Daniel. In the Round of 16, she notched a 3 and 2 win over Gretchen Johnson and followed with a 3 an 2 win over Megan Buck in the quarterfinals. 

Campbell capped off Wednesday with a dramatic 1 up win over Lauren Greenlief, besting the 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion by a stroke on the 18th hole.

A team captain at Notre Dame in 2015-16, Campbell earned All-ACC honors a junior and senior. She also shared co-medalist honors at the 2013 BIG EAST Championship as a freshman and was voted a unanimous all-BIG EAST selection. An All-ACC Academic Team honoree in her three seasons in the league, she was named the Notre Dame Monogram Club Team MVP following her senior season. She also earned Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholar honors as a sophomore, junior and senior.
