Third-Seeded Irish Poised For ACC Championship Run

May 9, 2018

The University of Notre Dame rowing team heads to Lake Hartwell in Clemson, South Carolina, this weekend to take part in the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship.

The Irish, who own the third seed in the field and are ranked 17th in the most recent Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/United States Rowing Top 20, are hoping to make a run for an automatic NCAA Championship berth by claiming the team title – or enhancing the team’s strong resume for an at-large berth to the national championship regatta.

“I think the field is very strong,” Notre Dame head coach Martin Stone said.

“We need to just focus on ourselves and row the best races we possibly can. It has been a long hard winter here that limited our on-water training and it has taken us some time to find out where everyone needs to be in the boats. We are starting to gain speed, especially the last three weeks. It just took us some time to find the right combinations.”

Racing will begin Sunday, May 13, at 8:05 a.m. ET with the Varsity Eight heats. The finals are set to begin at 5:35 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
