MILWAUKEE, Wis. – After a three-year hiatus, the Notre Dame men returned to participate in the 48th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic for the first time since 2021. Four players represented the Irish in the event and Chase Thompson highlighted the weekend with a run to the finals of the singles draw.
The sophomore from Mission Viejo, California dropped the opening set of play on Friday to his opponent from Nebraska. But he responded winning the next two sets to claim the first round win and then ran through the next three matches with decisive straight set victories over DePaul, Western Michigan and Pepperdine en route to the finals. However his run would come to an end at the hands of Western Michigan’s top player in a 3-set match claimed by the Bronco senior.
Seniors Yu Zhang and Jamie Corsillo also picked up opening round victories over their respective Nebraska and Michigan State foes. Zhang also picked up a second win in a consolation match later in the event with a straight set win over Western Michigan. The pair also claimed an opening round win in doubles against Nebraska.

The men’s team will have a weekend off from competing before heading to Michigan State for the ITA Regionals. The qualifying singles draw of the 5-day event will begin on Thursday, October 10th with main draw play beginning on the 12th with the best players in the Midwest area competing.
