Freshman Chase Thompson has played only one weekend of dual matches in his young career and has already garnered his first ACC weekly award. Thompson was named ACC Freshman of the Week after his unblemished performance on opening day which saw him go 4-0 against IUPUI.
Thompson partnered with sophomore Evan Lee to win both doubles matches at the No. 2 position without dropping a game. Their 6-0 match wins set the tone for the team early in both duals as they were first off the court.
The freshman played No. 3 singles in his first dual singles match and took down his Jaguar opponent by a 6-1, 6-2 score. In the second singles match of the day, Thompson played the top spot in the lineup and beat the No. 1 from IUPUI by a 6-2, 6-0 score. He was first off the court at every turn having dominated his opponent all day and relinquishing only 5 total games in the 4 matches he played.
Thompson is a freshman from Mission Viejo, California was one of the top recruits in the country. Ranked as high as No. 4 in the United States in his class, the 6-foot-5 lefty has a powerful game and a history of success he looks to build on in his Notre Dame career.
