Torin Francis Named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week

Dec. 2, 2003

Notre Dame, Ind. – Sophomore forward Torin Francis (Boston, Mass.) has been named the BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week after averaging 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds and shooting 66.7 percent from the field in Notre Dame’s first two victories of the season versus Northern Illinois and Mount St. Mary’s. He shares the honor with sophomore guard Carl Krauser of Pittsburgh.

Francis registered his 11th double double of his collegiate career when he scored 24 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in a 74-65 victory over Northern Illinois. Both of those totals were one shy of his personal bests. He followed that performance with 13 points and six rebounds in a 78-64 win against Mount St. Mary’s.

Francis earns his first career BIG EAST player-of-the-week honor. As a freshman last season, he was named to the 2003 BIG EAST All-Rookie team and earned the league’s rookie-of-the-week award on one occasion.

A starter in all 67 games during his career, Francis has scored in double figures 22 time and grabbed 10-plus rebounds in 13 contests.
