Became first Irish player to win a pro title in the Silverio era

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Mari-Louise Van Zyl of the Notre Dame women’s tennis program wasted no time this offseason. The rising sophomore from South Africa advanced through qualifying to take the trophy in Gaborone, Botswana. The win marks her first professional singles title at the ITF W15 event. She also became the first Irish player to win a pro title in the Coach Silverio era.

Van Zyl defeated the six-seed Elena Jamshidi in straight sets in the final, winning 7-6(5), 6-1.

This past season, Van Zyl posted a 7-3 singles dual record and went 11-5 overall. In doubles, she notched a 12-5 dual record with a 5-3 mark in ACC play.
