Irish Down RedHawks In Impressive 3-0 Victory

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — After suffering a hard-fought, five-set defeat on Friday evening, the Irish bounced back on Saturday morning with an emphatic 3-0 sweep of Miami (Ohio) to improve to 5-2 on the season. All five of the Notre Dame victories in 2018 have come via sweeps.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set
The Irish controlled the first set from the opening serve, quickly building an early lead at 7-4. Notre Dame continued to build its advantage throughout the first frame, as a block by Meg Morningstar and Rebecca Nunge pushed the score to 18-11. The Irish went on to take the set by a score of 25-19 to go up 1-0 in the match.

Second Set
The second stanza started as a back-and-forth battle, with the score being tied at 7-7. Notre Dame then won nine of the next 12 points to take a commanding 16-10 lead midway through the set. The Irish then cruised to a 25-16 win to take control of the match at 2-0. Yeadon played a huge role in the second stanza, hammering out six kills in the frame to pace the Irish attack.

Third Set
The Irish carried its momentum from the second set into the third, jumping out to an early 11-4 lead. The RedHawks tried to fight back, cutting the Notre Dame lead to two at 11-9. However, that is as close as the Irish would allow Miami to get, completing the sweep with a third set score of 25-16.
