The University of Notre Dame volleyball team (16-5) improved to 6-0 in the BIG EAST with a three-game victory (15-4, 15-9, 15-13) over conference foe Seton Hall, Sunday afternoon at the Joyce Center. Irish head coach Debbie Brown employed her whole roster in the victory as 12 Notre Dame players notched at least one kill in the match. Senior co-captain Christi Girton led the Irish offense with nine kills in two games, while junior Kristy Kreher totaled seven kills and three blocks in two games as well.
Notre Dame controlled the first game of the contest and scored most of its points off of Seton Hall errors. The Irish defense would total 11 blocks in the match, including six from Malinda Goralski and four from freshman Katie Neff, who started the first match of her career against the Pirates. As the Irish controlled the net, Seton Hall struggled offensively and would end up hitting .000 in the match (30 kills, 30 errors, 104 attempts).
Seton Hall did mount a charge in the third game, but three kills from Irish freshman Kim Fletcher, along with five kills by Kreher, sealed the match victory for Notre Dame.
Next up for the 21st-ranked Irish are two conference road games at St. John’s (Saturday, Oct. 28, 2:00 p.m.) and Connecticut (Sunday, Oct. 29, 2:00 p.m.
