WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina — Playing a ranked opponent for the fourth straight match, the Notre Dame women’s tennis team was handed a 6-1 setback by No. 14 Wake Forest on Sunday, March 25.
How It Happened
Doubles
With the Irish winning by forfeit on court three, the Deacs took a 6-2 victory on court one when the 31st-ranked duo of Emma Davis & Chandler Carter defeated Notre Dame’s Brooke Broda & Allison Miller. That put the pressure on court two, where Eliza Omirou & Mary Caroline Meredith took a hard-fought 7-5 decision over Cameron Corse & Zoe Spence to give Wake the doubles point.
Singles
After a forfeit on court six gave the Irish a point, Broda fell to Davis in straight sets to put the hosts back up, 2-1. Meredith then defeated Spence, 6-3, 6-2, and Miller fell to Omirou, 6-2, 6-2, to clinch the match for Wake.
Carter defeated Corse (7-5, 6-2) on court three while five singles was the tightest contest, as Ally Bojczuk and Wake’s Joanna Zalewski split the first two sets before Zalewski took a tiebreaker, 10-5, played in lieu of a third set.
