Walsh Inducted Into Massachusetts Hockey Hall Of Fame

FALMOUTH, Mass. – An early member of the University of Notre Dame’s varsity hockey team, Brian “Duke” Walsh (’77) was inducted into the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame Saturday evening at a ceremony in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Walsh was one of five individuals in the 2025 Class, chosen on the basis of accomplishments in the game of hockey, sportsmanship, character and contributions to his or her teams and programs.

Walsh played under head coach “Lefty” Smith from 1973-77 and finished his Irish career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 234 career points on 89 goals and 145 assists. His 145 assists rank tied for first in program history, while the 89 goals rank tied for fifth-most. Skating as both a forward and defenseman for the Irish, he totaled 24 power-play goals and is tied for the program lead with eight career hat tricks. One of eight players in program history with at least 80 goals and 80 assists, Brian put together the second-highest scoring season in program history in 1976-77 when he scored 30 goals and added 47 assists for 77 points. His 47 assists that season remain the highest single season total in program history. Brian earned All- America status and was named the 1976-77 WCHA MVP.
