Westbeld, Citron Named To All-ACC Second Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After a pair of standout seasons both on and off the court, Maddy Westbeld and Sonia Citron have been named to the 2024 All-ACC Second Team.

Westbeld, the sole starter on the squad to have been with Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Coach Niele Ivey since she started in 2020, finished the regular season with the best rebounding mark of her four-year career: 9.4 per game. She is also averaging 14.1 points per contest, shooting 45.9 percent from the floor and 35.4 percent from deep, and has a 79 percent success rate from the charity stripe. The latter number is also a career-best. Additionally, Westbeld has 12 double-doubles this season. She entered the year with just nine over her first three seasons in South Bend.

The 6-3 forward is heating up at the right time, too. Over the last five games, Westbeld is averaging 15 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while shooting 51.7 percent from the floor. She has notched three double-doubles in that span. Westbeld is one of just four ACC players averaging at least 14 points and 9 rebounds per game this year.

Citron made her way onto the list despite missing nine games with a knee sprain suffered on Nov. 15. She ended the regular season averaging 16.3 points per game, which ranks ninth in the league. Citron is also the most reliable free throw shooter in the conference, leading the ACC with a 90.8 percent success rate from the line (59-65).

A suffocating defensive presence as well, Citron was often tasked with guarding opponents’ top scorers. She is the only guard in the ACC to finish the regular season averaging at least 15 points and 5 rebounds per game who also has 10 blocks on the year.

This yearly award is Citron’s third from the ACC in as many years; she was the 2021 ACC Rookie of the Year and a member of the All-ACC First Team last season.

In addition to the honors Westbeld and Citron earned, Irish freshman Hannah Hidalgo was named to the All-ACC First Team and earned both ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

Notre Dame begins postseason play in the 2024 ACC Tournament on Friday at 11 a.m. The opponent has not been finalized, but it will be either Louisville, Clemson or Boston College.
