TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Notre Dame women’s golf team carded a final round 304 to finish seventh at the Florida State Match-Up (290-290-304=884) in its first tournament of the spring season, which was played at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course (Par 72/6,212 yards).
Junior Emma Albrecht (72-70-76=218) and freshman Abby Heck (73-70-76=218) paced the Irish as they finished tied for 21st.
“We got solid play by Emma and Abby,” head coach Susan Holt said. “We just need to clean things up here and there and getting out and playing more now will help with that. We have lots of positives to take from this event and we just have to keep improving.”
Led by individual medalist Ainhoa Olarra (66-69-71=206), South Carolina (273-288-287=848) bested Michigan State (285-283-285=853) by five strokes to win the tournament.
On the Match-Up leaderboard, South Carolina and Virginia took the championship with a score of 1,059 (350-353-356). Notre Dame and Kentucky teamed up to finish fifth (367-362-377=1,106).
NOTRE DAME LEADERS
Heck shot a final round 76 to lead the Irish and her Saturday round included 12 pars and birdies on No. 8 and No. 10.
On Friday, Albrecht and Heck each carded a two-under par 70’s to lead Notre Dame during the second round. Maddie Rose Hamilton had the low score for the Irish in the first round. The junior was consistent over her 18 to card a 71, recording two birdies and one bogey.

NOTRE DAME’S FLORIDA STATE MATCH-UP HISTORY
Notre Dame previously took part in the event in 2013, as well as last season. In 2013, The Irish placed seventh overall and, paired with Michigan, placed fifth in the Match-Up standings. Last season Notre Dame was paired with Oklahoma and Emma Albrecht led the Notre Dame lineup by tying for 22nd (74-72-73-219) in the 66-player field.

The Irish will have next weekend off and then continue the season on Feb. 25-26 at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona.
