PALOS VERDES, Calif. – After a three month lay-off, the Notre Dame women’s golf team got the second half of their season underway at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Club. The Irish encountered tough scoring conditions, with winds estimated to be between 30 and 40 mph’s, on the first day of play, as the team combined to shoot a +46 (330).
The Irish sit in 14th-place, while Arizona State leads after one round of play. The Sun Devils carded a +21 (305) on the strength of Juliana Murcia’s minus-one (70), the only under-par round recorded amongst the field of 84 golfers.
Sophomore So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep) carded the lowest round of the day for the Irish, as she was able to mange the elements in order to post a plus-nine (80). The sophomore All-American recorded ten pars and a birdie on the fifth to tie for 30th on the individual leaderboard.
Freshman Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton HS) shot a plus-11 (82) in her first round, putting her in 47th-place tie. She had seven pars and a birdie on the second.
Senior captain Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) registered a plus-12 (83) in round one. She notched six pars and a birdie on the fifth.
Junior Annie Brophy (Spoakne, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) was the last golfer to have her round counted towards the team score, as she shot a plus-14 (85) that included eight pars.
Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) rounded out the Irish contingent with a plus-14 (85). Conway birdied the eighth and added three pars.
