STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – Led by junior Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton) who is in first place (141/-3) after 36 holes, the Notre Dame women’s golf team is atop the 15-team field in the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate Monday at the Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga.
James Madison is currently in second place after recording 603 (+27) through two rounds, while Michigan is in third place (606/+30) and there is a three-way tie between Central Florida, Maryland and East Tennessee State for fourth place (609/+33).
Huffer, the only competitor under par through two rounds, is trailed by teammate Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading) who is tied for sixth place. The senior captain recorded a 72 in the first round and a three-over par 75 in the second round to finish the day at 147.
Kristina Nhim (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) is tied for 17th place as the freshman recorded a 77 (+4) in the initial round of the day before improving her second round score by three strokes (73) and finishing the 36 holes at 150 (+6).
Freshman Nicole Zhang (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) and senior So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Preparatory Academy) rounded out the Irish score. Zhang and Park both registered a 79 in the first round before improving in the final 18 holes to end the day tied for 29th (153/+8) and 34th (154/+9), respectively.
Katie Allare (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) is an individual competitor for the Irish. The junior carded a 162 (+18) and is tied for 63rd place through the first day of the tournament.
