Athens, Ga. – Through the first round of the 2011 Liz Murphey Classic, the University of Notre Dame women’s golf team is in 17th place after posting a 302 (+14) in the first 18 holes of the tournament at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
Senior-captain Katie Conway (Wading, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) is in a tie for 42nd place and is leading the Irish after posting a 77 (+5) through the first round of play.
Junior Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton), senior So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Preparatory Academy) and freshman Nicole Zhang (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) are all tied for 59th place. The trio recorded a 78 (+6) through the initial 18 holes of play.
Freshman Kristina Nhim (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) has registered an 82 (+10) for 102nd place to begin the contest.
The tournament is following a scoring format that uses the best score from the top-four team members on each hole.
The Irish continue the three-day Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Saturday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
