Women's Golf To Close Fall Season At Landfall Tradition

Oct. 27, 2016

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — One year ago at the Country Club of Landfall, the Notre Dame Women’s Golf Team shot the fourth-lowest 54-holes in school history, and rocketed to second place overall, besting four top-20 teams. This year, the Irish enter the 15th-annual Landfall Tradition with the same focus and will be looking to repeat their success.

Notre Dame comes off a ninth-place finish at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, with four players shooting under par in the final round. The Irish look to improve upon their placement and keep the low rounds coming in on the Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall (par 72– 6,166 yards), located in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The tournament field boasts 18 teams, including seven in the top-20 ranked teams by Golfweek: Alabama (1), Furman (8), Purdue (12), Wake Forest (13), North Carolina (17), South Carolina (18), and UCF (20).

Duke took home the team honors last year, and the Irish finished second off their final round score of 281, tied for a tournament low. Sarah Burnham, current junior from Michigan State, took home the 2015 medalist honors with a -5 (211) on the tournament.

“Last year’s second place finish in this event was huge not only for our ranking but for our confidence,” Head Coach Susan Holt said. “We are in need of a similar performance this year year for the same reasons. The field is strong again with seven teams ranked in the top-20. We have a great opportunity to help ourselves with a solid finish. We have the talent to get it done so it will just come down to our execution.”

This will be Notre Dame’s last tournament of the Fall season. After winter break, the Irish will kick off the Spring campaign February 10th at the Florida State Match-Up.

Lineup
Senior Jordan Ferreira will again lead the Irish in the No. 1 spot in the lineup, coming off her 13th-place individual finish and final round of 68 last week, her lowest in a Notre Dame uniform.

Freshman Mia Ayer moves up to the No. 2 spot this week, followed by sophomores Isabella DiLisio, Maddie Rose Hamilton and Emma Albrecht. Junior Alison Snakard will compete as an individual.

Coach Holt on finishing the first semester’s portion of the schedule …
“We are still looking to play a solid, three-round tournament. We need to be more consistent from round to round. It would be a great way to finish up the fall season with a solid performance at the Landfall.”
