NOTRE DAME, Ind. –
The women’s golf team will travel to Wilmington, North Carolina to take part in the 2008 Landfall Tradition, hosted by UNC Wilmington. The three-day event will be played on the 6,117-yard Jack Nicklaus Pines Course of the Country Club of Landfall. The first round of play will be held on Friday, October 24, followed by the second and third rounds on October 25 and 26.
FORMAT: Each team’s lineup will be comprised of five golfers with the lowest four scores for each round counting towards the overall team score. The tournament will consist of 54 holes, with 18 holes of play Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday and Saturday’s rounds will begin at 9:12 a.m. on the Pines Course, while Sunday will feature an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
FIELD: A field of 12 teams will take to the Pines Course. In addition to the Irish, the teams participating include UNC Wilmington, East Carolina, Florida, Michigan, N.C. State, North Carolina, North Carolina-Greensboro, Northwestern, Ohio State, Tulsa and Wake Forest.
NOTRE DAME LINEUP: The five members of the traveling contingent will comprise the Irish lineup. The travel party includes senior captain Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute), junior Annie Brophy (Spoakne, Wash./Gonzaga Prep), sophomores So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep) and Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) as well as freshman Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton HS).
LAST TIME OUT: The Notre Dame women’s golf team finished third at the Lady Northern Invitational at the par 72, 6,276-yard Kampen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Indiana. Junior Annie Brophy led Notre Dame by firing a plus-six 222, good for a fourth place finish. Brophy shot a plus-five 77 in the third round. Brophy’s fourth place finish was aided by eight birdies on the weekend, tied for the second-most in the 82-player field. She also posted an impressive minus-three total for her par-five’s, the best mark in the field.
IRISH BIRDIES: The Landfall Tradition has taken place since 2002 … Wake Forest is the defending women’s champion … 2008 marks Notre Dame’s first appearance in the event … East Carolina, Florida and Northwestern are also playing in the event for the first time … Lisa Maunu ranks sixth nationally in total short game with a .648 mark … as a team the Irish rank ninth in par-4 scoring (4.20), sixth in par-5 scoring (4.91) and second in total short game (.559) … in the second round of the Lady Northern Invitational, So-Hyun Park shot an Irish record-tying (and career low) minus-six … also in the second round, the team combined to shoot a minus-seven 281, shattering the old program record by four strokes … the most recent Golf World/NGCA poll (released on October 15) has the Irish in the Receiving Votes category (35) … Golf World has listed sophomore All-American So-Hyun Park as one of the top-50 female players to watch this season … Golfweek has listed Becca Huffer as a Notable Newcomer for the 2008-09 season … www.golfdigest.com has tabbed Becca Huffer as the preseason choice for BIG EAST Rookie of the Year honors.

NEXT UP: Notre Dame takes a three-month break, as the Irish do not play again until February 9, 2009 at Ohio State’s Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The tournament will be played at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, California.
