VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) – Courtney LaVere scored 20 points and hit a key free throw in the final seconds to help lead Notre Dame to a 58-56 win over No. 20 Villanova on Saturday, snapping a two-game losing streak.
Jacqueline Batteast scored 12 points and Alicia Ratay added 10 for Notre Dame (11-6, 3-3 Big East), which led 29-25 at the half.
Trish Juhline had 22 points for Villanova (14-3, 4-2), which saw its nine-game home winning streak snapped. Katie Davis added 14 points and Courtney Mix had 13.
Juhline hit a 3-pointer to tie the score at 53 with 1:28 remaining. A basket by Ratay put Notre Dame up 55-53 with 48 seconds remaining. Mix hit one of two foul shots with 27 seconds remaining to make it a one-point game. Le’Tania Severe hit two free throws for the Fighting Irish before LaVere’s free throw sealed the win.
