Notre Dame, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team broke open a tight 3-2 game in the first half by scoring five of the last six goals of the half on the way to an 8-3 halftime lead and an 18-6 final score.
Senior Alissa Moser (North Wales, Pa.) paced the Notre Dame attack with four goals and an assist while Danielle Shearer (Jr., Hempstead, Md.) and Natalie Loftus (Sr., Baltimore, Md.) each scored three goals in the win.
The victory improves Notre Dame to 2-0 during the fall season. The Irish will travel to Easton, Pa. on Friday, Oct. 26 to face Lafayette in a 7:00 p.m. game. On Sunday, Oct. 28, Notre Dame participates in the University of Delaware Tournament in Newark, Del.
The Irish had 11 different players score versus Duquesne. Shearer started the scoring parade with a goal just 28 seconds into the game.
After a Duquesne goal tied the game 1-1, junior Angela Dixon (Pennsauken, N.J.) broke the tie with two goals in 24 seconds to give the Irish a 3-1 lead with 17:36 left in the half. A Duquesne goal cut the lead to 3-2, but from there, Notre Dame seized control.
Loftus scored two of her three goals to improve the lead to 5-2, Moser got her first of the game and Kelly McCardell (Jr., West Chester, Pa.) and Loftus closed out the scoring in the half.
In the second half, Notre Dame held the Dukes scoreless for the first 17 minutes while scoring seven unanswered goals. Shearer started the scoring-run at 28:17 and finished it at 22:23. In between, Meredith Simon (So., Flemington, N.J.) scored once, Moser added three and Kate Scarola (Sr., Windsor, Conn.) ran the Irish lead to 15-3.
Duquesne broke the scoring drought at 13:00 and would score just two more in the game. Maureen Whitaker (Sr., Doylestown, Pa.), Kassen Delano (So., Alexandria, Va.) and Julie Ravis (Jr., Pottstown, Pa.) closed out the scoring for the final of 18-6.
The Irish outshot Duquesne 28-13 in the game. Carol Dixon (Fr., Pennsauken, N.J.) played 45 minutes making five saves while giving up three goals. Junior Jen White (Annapolis, Md.) played the final 15 minutes giving up three goals on five shots in the win.
