Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame women’s lacrosse coach Tracy Coyne has announced the 2002 women’s lacrosse captains for the upcoming spring season.
Seniors Tina Fedarcyk (Millersville, Md.), Kathryn Lam (Plainsboro, N.J.) and Alissa Moser (North Wales, Pa.) will serve as team captains for the 2002 season. The trio brings experience and leadership to the Irish as Lam has served as captain the past two seasons while Moser was a captain last year. Fedarcyk will be in her first year as a captain this season.
In making the announcement, Coyne said, “Tina, Kathryn and Alissa compliment each other very well as captains. All three have different leadership styles, but they are committed to the goals that we have set as a team. All three have outstanding work ethics and have distinguished themselves during their first three seasons at Notre Dame. They are team leaders and are positive influences for the rest of our team.”
Fedarcyk is a versatile player who has started every game in her three seasons with the Irish. The team’s MVP as a freshman, Fedarcyk was a first team All-BIG EAST selection as a junior when she led the Irish with 42 ground balls. She scored three goals in 2001 on three shots and added a pair of assists for five points. In 45 career games, Fedarcyk has 10 goals and six assists for 16 points. She was also a member of the Great Lakes Regional Team that participated in the U.S. Women’s Lacrosse National Tournament.
Lam begins her third season as a team captain for the Irish. She is the backbone of the Notre Dame defensive corps and is a member of the U.S. Developmental lacrosse team. The team’s MVP in 2000, Lam is a two-time all-region selection and was a member of the Great Lakes Team that played last year in the U.S. Women’s Lacrosse National Tournament. A vocal leader with outstanding defensive skills, Lam grabbed 38 ground balls and caused 15 turnovers. She scored four goals with no assists as a junior and has 14 goals and two assists for 16 points in 45 career games.
Moser was a second team All-BIG EAST selection as a junior as a midfield/attack player. She finished fourth on the team in goals (17) and points (21) while leading the team with 40 draw controls in 2001. Moser has also started every game during her Notre Dame career and has 38 goals and 12 assists for 50 career points. She also played for the Great Lakes Regional Team at the U.S. Women’s Lacrosse Tournament.
The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team will spend the Christmas break (Dec. 28 – Jan. 12) in Australia where they will play test matches versus all-star teams from New South Wales and Western Australia.
The Irish open the 2002 season on Sunday, March 3 when they play host to Ohio University in a 1:00 p.m. game at Moose Krause Stadium.
