NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Notre Dame women’s lacrosse junior captain Kathryn Lam and assistant coach Danielle Gallagher have been named to a pair of U.S. women’s lacrosse national teams by U.S. Lacrosse, the national governing body of men’s and women’s lacrosse. Lam will join the 31-member U.S. Development Team that consists of players who show the potential to compete at the international level in women’s lacrosse and serves as a feeder program for the U.S. Elite and World Cup teams. Gallagher will make her third appearance on the three-time defending World Cup champion women’s lacrosse team.
Lam — a two-time all-region selection and the Irish team MVP in 2000 — becomes the first Irish women’s lacrosse player to make a national team. The Development Team will participate in its annual camp from July 31-August 4, and will play in a pair of competitions this fall. The team will play a game against the U.S. World Cup team on Sept. 29, at Johns Hopkins and will play exhibition games against Northwestern and Notre Dame at Northwestern on the weekend of Nov. 3-4.
Gallagher, who completed her first season as assistant coach at Notre Dame, also starred on the 1993 and 1997 World Cup champion teams. The 1989 graduate of William & Mary graduate is one of four players on the 2001 team to have played on a pair of previous World Cup teams. The World Cup, which also will feature Irish head coach Tracy Coyne as the coach of the Canadian national team, will be held July 7-14 in High Wycombe, England.
