Women's Lacrosse's Jen White Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

April 30, 2002

Providence, R.I. – Junior goalkeeper Jen White (Annapolis, Md.) has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending April 28. This marks the third time this season that White has been honored by the BIG EAST as she was also selected for the honor on March 17 and April 1.

In two road games last week, White led the 10th-ranked Irish to an 11-3 win at Northwestern (April 25) and a 9-2 BIG EAST win at Rutgers (April 28). The two goals surrendered at Rutgers set a BIG EAST record for fewest goals surrendered in a game and equals a Notre Dame record.

For the two games, White had a 2.50 goals against average and stopped 16 of 21 shots for a .762 save percentage. Of the five goals surrendered by White during the week, two came via free position shots. The talented goalkeeper also picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.

In the win at Northwestern, White gave up three goals while making three saves with one ground ball and a pair of caused turnovers.

At Rutgers, White gave up one goal in each half with the second-period goal coming on a free position shot. She made 13 saves while grabbing three ground balls. The two goals surrendered matched the Notre Dame record for fewest goals surrendered as the Irish downed Davidson 18-2 on April 9, 1999 and Denver 20-2 on March 25, 2001.

For the season, White leads all BIG EAST goalkeepers with a 7.24 goals against average and is second with a .558 save percentage in all games played. In six league games, White is first in goals against (7.33) and first in save percentage (.585).

White has played every minute for the Irish this season as Notre Dame set a school record with 11 wins with the victory at Rutgers. For the year, the Irish are 11-4 overall and finished second in the BIG EAST with a 5-1 league record.

Notre Dame closes out the regular season on Friday, May 3 when the Irish play host to the 12th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores at Moose Krause Stadium. Game time is 1:00 p.m. (CST).
