MIAMI, Fla. — The seventh-ranked Notre Dame women’s tennis team dropped just one match in picking up a pair of wins on Saturday, beating host and 35th-ranked Miami 6-1 and blanking West Virginia 7-0 to cap its spring break in Miami. Junior Lindsey Green provided the clinching win versus the Hurricanes, while freshman Caylan Leslie won in doubles to clinch the point and later provided a win in the decisive singles match as Notre Dame improved to 14-3 with the wins. The Irish return to action when they travel to 28th-ranked Kentucky for a noon match on March 24.

In the opening match the eighth-ranked doubles team of Irish senior All-American Michelle Dasso and junior Becky Varnum defeat Katia Bogolomova and Alanna Broderick 8-4 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the point. Sophomore Katie Cunha and senior Kimberly Guy were 8-3 winners at No. 2 doubles, and juniors Lindsey Green and Nina Vaughan won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Notre Dame then won five singles matches in straight sets for the 6-1 win. Green provided the clinching win, as she beat Lauren Scaglione 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Fourth-ranked Dasso beat 73rd-ranked Bettina Hafner 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Varnum was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Alanna Broderick at No. 2 singles. Junior and 99th-ranked Nina Vaughan beat Marcy Hora 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, while freshman Caylan Leslie downed Katia Bogolomova 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Miami’s only point came at No. 5 singles where Guy lost a tight 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 match to Sihem Bennacer.

The Irish returned to the court later in the afternoon and beat West Virginia 7-0. Notre Dame lost just three games in winning the doubles point. Dasso and Varnum won 8-0 at No. 1, while Cunha and Guy were 8-1 winners. Leslie and freshman Alicia Salas clinched the point with an 8-2 win over Anna Underwood and Katherine Agustsson at No. 3 doubles.

Notre Dame then swept the singles without Dasso and Guy in the lineup. Varnum beat Ellie Earles 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Vaughan defeated Helen Adams 6-2, 6-3. Leslie and Green also won in straight sets at Nos. 3 and 4 singles. Cunha and Salas moved into the singles lineup and were victorious. Cunha beat Jennifer Watkins 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, while Salas downed Gretchen Unger 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
