NOTRE DAME, Ind. – In 2018, Notre Dame senior guard Arike Ogunbowale was named an All-American, an Ann Meyers Drysdale Award finalist, the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player and the ACC Female Athlete of the Year. With all those accolades under her belt, Ogunbowale still achieved a career first on Sunday afternoon, earning a second ACC Player of the Week award in the same season.
Ogunbowale picks up her fifth career ACC weekly honor, previously winning just once in each of her last three seasons and again this year after she helped the Irish knock off then No. 15 DePaul in November.
This past week, Ogunbowale tallied 16 points and four assists in Notre Dame’s 103-53 victory over Western Kentucky before returning to her hometown of Milwaukee to help the Irish knock off No. 19 Marquette, 87-63.
In her homecoming game, Ogunbowale tied her career high of 32 points, converting 13-of-21 from the field. The senior scored Notre Dame’s first 11 points of the third quarter, before finishing with 15 for the period.
The 32-point performance was her fourth 30-point game of the season, which not only leads all players in the ACC, but also ties the Notre Dame record for most in a season. Ogunbowale is now up to eight 30-point games in her career, which breaks Jewell Loyd’s all-time mark at Notre Dame.
Speaking of breaking records, Ogunbowale is eyeing the all-time scoring record at Notre Dame. The Milwaukee native currently sits with 2,054 career points while Skylar Diggins-Smith holds the top spot with 2,357. Ogunbowale is currently averaging an ACC best 23.1 points per game.
