COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The final regular season tournament of the women’s golf tournament saw the University of Notre Dame team finish sixth overall behind a trio of top-25. The Irish squad finished with a score of 892(+28) ahead of the ACC Championships to be held next week in Greensboro, North Carolina.
“The Terrapin Invitational was another learning opportunity for our team,” head coach Caroline Powers Ellis said. “We were in a really good position through two rounds to be in contention again for the team title but did not execute well enough in round three.”
The women were led by Faustine Errecade whose 220(+4) score overall ranked 15th individually. The freshman charged ahead early with a first round score of 71(-1) as she tied teammate Maya Hunter for the team-low through the opening 18 holes. Errecade went on to finish the first day of competition with a score of 73(+1) to sit even heading into the final round. On Monday she recorded a score of 76(+4) to finish the tournament in 15th-place.
“Individually, Faustine had a breakthrough tournament and I am really proud of her fight,” Powers Ellis added. “Her 15th place finish is her best finish all year and really shows the work that she has put in to be the best version of herself out on the golf course.”
Hunter, whose 71(-1) in the first round Sunday led the team, closed out the day with a 78(+6) tally in the second round. The senior led the Irish in round three with a score of 75(+3) to move up nine spots in the standings and move into a tie for 25th with a final three-round score of 224(+8). Teammate Bridget Wilkie tied for 25th overall as her final score of 224(+8) matched that of Hunter. The freshman recorded a score of 75(+3) in the opening round before concluding Sunday’s play with a overall team-low score of 70(-2). Monday’s contest saw her finish with a score of 79(+7) in round three for the two-day total.
Montgomery Ferreira’s 229(+13) score placed her 40th overall as the senior recorded her tournament best 73(+1) score in the first round of the competition. She finished Sunday off with a score of 75(+3) before registering a final round stroke tally of 81(+9) for the final.
Alex Lapple rounded out the competition for the Irish, claiming 51st overall behind a final score of 231(+15). The sophomore recorded a consistent three round with scores of 77(+5).
“This tournament really showed how every shot matters and how important patience and mental toughness are when juggling challenging weather and rain delays,” Powers Ellis said of Monday’s inclement weather during round three. “Our team will be better because of this experience and we will get back to our process this week to prepare for the conference championship.”
The Irish will have a week off before heading East to North Carolina for the 2025 ACC Championships, April 16-19.
