KENNESAW, Ga. – The University of Notre Dame women’s golf program clinched its best team placement of the season thus far with a third place finish at the annual Pinetree Women’s Collegiate down in Georgia Tuesday with a score of 877(+25). The two-day tournament saw the women leading the pack for parts of the second round while sophomore Alex Lapple and freshman Bridget Wilkie sat atop the individual leaderboards consistently throughout the invitational. Through day one of the tournament, the women were second overall in the 12-team field while Lapple’s two-round score of 139(-3) was the lowest among all individuals.
Lapple finished the tournament in third individually behind scores of 71(E), 68(-3), and 76(+5) and was the top finisher among Irish competitors. She finished with an overall score of 215(+2) through the three rounds played. Her overall score of 215(+2) sat just one stroke shy of first.
Wilkie finished in the top-10 behind a 218(+5) final score in the tournament. The freshman was in third heading into the final day after 72(+1) and 69(-2) scores in the first and second round. Her round three score of 77(+6) placed her ninth overall which is a career best finish for Wilkie.
Montgomery Ferreira’s 220(+7) score placed her just outside the top-10 overall finishers as she placed 12th in the individual field and third on the team. The senior’s round three score of 73(+2) moved her up five spots overall on the final day. Her first day of competition included a score of 73(+2) in the opening round and a 74(+3) mark in the second round. Ferreira also recorded the lone eagle of the tournament for the Irish, registering three strokes on a par-five seventh hole.
The team’s top mover on the final day was Maya Hunter who jumped up 14 spots on the leaderboard for her third round performance. The senior’s third round score of 75(+4) was the second-lowest for the Irish in the final round and moved Hunter into 30th overall following first and second round scores of 77(+6) and 75(+4), respectively.
Maddy Bante rounded out the Irish contingent in Georgia as her final score of 229(+16) ranked 42nd overall. The freshman opened the tournament with a first round score of 75(+4) before notching 78(+7) to close out the first day of play. Her round three score of 76(+5) moved her up six spots overall for the 42nd-place finish.
The women return to the course on April 6-7 when they compete in their final regular season tournament, the Maryland Terps Invite.
