BAYPORT, N.Y. – Notre Dame women’s lacrosse assistant coach Kerry Stoothoff is being honored by her high school this weekend as she is one of five inductees into the Bayport-Blue Point Athletics High School Hall of Fame.
Stoothoff was a three sport athlete at Bayport-Blue Point and earned 13 letters; five in soccer, four in lacrosse and four in basketball. She was a team captain of all three teams during her high school career. Stoothoff was named Most Valuable Player five times, earning the award twice in basketball and lacrosse and once in soccer. Named All-Suffolk County First Team honors in lacrosse as a junior and senior and was a member of the New York State National School Girls Tournament team in 2007.
Following a stellar high school career, Stoothoff attended Loyola (Md.) and had a standout four years with the Greyhounds. She made 62 starts and totaling 3,497 minutes between the pipes for the Greyhounds and ranked fifth on Loyola’s all-time saves list with 528. Stoothoff left the program with a career .485 save percentage and 9.61 goals against average, resulting in a 53-22 record in goal.
In 2011, she was a Tewaaraton Award Nominee and was a Tewaaraton Award watch list selection in 2012. Stoothoff also earned IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region and All-BIG EAST honors during both seasons. Stoothoff helped Loyola to back-to-back BIG EAST titles in 2011 and 2012 and was voted the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player, becoming the only player in conference history to win consecutive MOP accolades. She was also tabbed Loyola’s MVP in 2010 and received the Unsung Hero Award in 2012.
Stoothoff began her coaching career at NCAA Division II power Adelphi where she coached the goalies and defense. During her time with the Panthers, she helped the program to two national championships in 2014 and 2015 and a berth in the NCAA title game in 2016. Before joining the Irish coaching staff in July, she spent the previous two seasons at James Madison working with the goalkeepers, offense and draw units. Stoothoff guided the Dukes to their first national championship in program history in 2018, defeating ACC foe Boston College in the championship game.
