NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Seven high school standouts are set to join the University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving squad in the fall of 2014, head coach Brian Barnes announced Wednesday.
Diver Anne Crea and swimmers Nicole Emery, Mary Hinton, Hanna House, Sherri McIntee, Alyssa Storino, and Molly Treble will make up the class of 2018.
Highlighting the group are 2012 Olympic Trials qualifiers Emery, House and McIntee, who when added with the 13 current or former Irish student-athletes that were also in Omaha, Neb., gives the program 16 representatives on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
In addition to the Olympic Trials participants, Crea, Emery and Treble earned All-America honors during their junior campaigns, while Emery, Hinton, House, Storino and Treble were tabbed Scholastic All-Americans after sporting at least a 3.5 GPA in the classroom and reaching a required time standard in their respective event.
“The coaching staff worked very hard to identify and ultimately sign student-athletes who are the best fit for Notre Dame and for our program,” said Barnes. “The University of Notre Dame is a place for ambitious young people who aspire to achieve at the highest level. I believe our incoming class, the class of 2018, will flourish at Notre Dame and in our program. I am excited to work with each of these young women for the next four years.”
The seven incoming freshmen will join six sophomores, seven juniors and eight seniors in making up the 2014-15 Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team.
After four consecutive dual meet wins and an eight-team invitational title in Iowa, this year’s Notre Dame (4-3) team has finally moved into the latest CSCAA Coaches Poll (No. 25), which was released Wednesday morning.
The Irish are done with competition for the fall semester, but get back to action Jan. 11 when they head to Evanston, Ill., to meet Big Ten foes Michigan and Northwestern in a double dual meet.
