Women's Tennis Takes Two of Three Over the Weekend

NOTRE DAME, Ind.. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team was in action at the Eck Tennis Pavilion this weekend, hosting three dual matches. After falling to Kentucky Friday evening, the Irish battled back to sweep Michigan State and Bowling Green Saturday. The Irish are 2-1 in duals this season. 

In Friday’s match, the Wildcats won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the point. Julia Andreach recorded Notre Dame’s lone point in the 4-1 loss, winning 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. 

The Irish were dominant Saturday, winning the duals by a combined 13-1 tally. The Day started with a 6-1 victory over Michigan State. The doubles teams of Carrie Beckman and Nibedita Ghosh won No. 3 easily, 6-2, and the pair of Page Freeman and Yashna Yellayi earned a 7-5 win at No. 2 to clinch the point. 

Singles saw Andreach, Freeman and Yellayi take No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, with Andreach and Freeman handling their matches in straight sets. Ghosh and Maria Olivia Castedo closed out the fifth and sixth flights with straight-set victories to conclude the first half of the doubleheader. 

In the nightcap, the Irish made short work of Bowllng Green. Andreach and Beckman earned a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles, with Freeman and Castedo tallying the same score at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point. Yellayi and Meghan Coleman earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 for the doubles sweep. 

Freeman, Ghosh, Castedo, Beckman, Maeve Kscielski and Katherine Bella won singles flights 1-6, respectively. All six won in straight sets to earn a dominant 7-0 victory.
