NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The United Soccer Coaches released its All-America teams on Thursday, and the University of Notre Dame’s Sandra Yu was recognized with a spot on the third team.
The All-America honor marks the first of Yu’s storied career, coming a few weeks after she was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team. Yu was also selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team on Wednesday.
The senior started all 22 games for Notre Dame in 2017, and officially earned a start in each of the team’s past 63 games. A native of Strongsville, Ohio, Yu more than doubled her previous career high in points (eight) with 21 points this season. The midfielder set career highs in nearly every statistical category, including goals (8) and assists (5). Most notably, Yu tallied five points on two goals and one assist in Notre Dame’s 4-0 shutout victory over No. 24 NC State on Sept. 24.
Yu becomes Notre Dame’s 53rd All-American and 20th from the midfield position. She marks the program’s first All-America selection since Cari Roccaro made the NSCAA third team in 2015 (also 2012).
