The Notre Dame baseball team – coming off a landmark 2002 season that ended with a trip to the College World Series (the program’s first CWS appearance since 1957) – embarks on another challenging season with four games slated for this week in Tempe, Ariz. (all games at ASU’s Packard Stadium) … Notre Dame and Dayton will face each other in both team’s opener, on Friday, Feb. 21 (1:00 p.m.) … the Irish – who are ranked as high as 11th in the nation (by Baseball America) – then will take on Newman University (11:00 a.m.) and #4-ranked Arizona State (3:00 p.m.) on Sat., Feb., 22 – with ND and ASU (which is off to an 18-1 start) meeting once again on Sun., Feb. 23 (1:00 p.m.) … the Irish beat the Sun Devils in a 2002 meeting at Eck Stadium (9-4), which served as the homecoming for current ASU head coach Pat Murphy (who built ND into a national power from 1988-94) and ASU assistant Mike Rooney (an ND player in the early ’90s) … ESPN Radio 1620 (WDND) and its sister station WDNV 1490 AM again will provide commercial broadcasts of the entire ND season … subscribers to the College Sports Pass also can listen via the internet (see main page of www.und.com) while live-stats will be available for the ASU games (and possibly the UD and Newman games) … KAZ-TV (an Arizona statewide independent station) will provide live telecasts of both games (no satellite feeds are available).
